Define Horizontal Alignment From Existing Elements

I am new to Microstation and Inroads as of a month ago. I am an expert in AutoCRUD and Land Desktop-->Civil 3D so I (supposedly) know my way around CAD.

I have a file given to me containing an alignment, including stationing. I do not have an XML file with alignment definitions.

I want to convert the elements into an alignment. Should be simple right? 2 or 3 steps maximum like it would be in the aforemntioned satanic software package. I mean, really simple. Select the elements, define beginning station value and push the button. Presto!

I cannot figure it out. I have documentation by others and Help and have been spinning my wheels all day long.

I have a geometry project with other alignments in it. I managed to create the new aligmnment, but by name only - it is empty. I tried File>Import Geometry and the message board, at least once it did, said something about success.

The alignment remains empty. I seriously do NOT want to trace over the top of the existing elements - this is stupid. They already exist, why should I do it over?

Any advice?

Thanks. Sorry if my frustration is peeking out from beneath my words.
