Roadway Designer - Issues with Using Horizontal Distance Value Control with Point Controls

I am working with a template created by others. They have two rail line alignments that they are using to control their template. One is used for the template origin, the other uses point controls to pull and push its side of the template left or right as required.

They defined a center point to fall at the midway point of these two rail alignments by using a Value formula, like _$(BL1)-$(BL2) * 0.5 to offset the center point from one rail alignment by 1/2 the distance between the two alignments. As defined in the template, the distance is horizontal distance is -14 so that evaluates two -7.

As the template is used, even though the point control is pulling the one side away from the template defined distance, the value control is still evaluating to -14*0.5 or -7, instead of calculating the true distance as determined from the point control.

If this is WAD, how would you accomplish this halfway point calculation so that the center point is correctly located.
