Roadway Designer Quick Tips

This should work on any Version containing Roadway Designer.

  1. I have found that using the Target Alias settings to specify the "Active Surface" has sped up my workflow. Even if I am not trying to target any other surfaces or corridors, by setting the Active Surface as the topmost Target Alias, I no longer have to lock the active surface in the bottom of the Roadway Designer dialog box. This prevents any View Surface dialog boxes from being reset to the active surface after each run. When performing fine tuning of a corridor, for intersections or any other situations where it is necessary to rerun a corridor over and over while making adjustments, this can be a real time-saver. Especially if you have a large Active Surface and are using the Update 3D/Plan Surface Display dialog box. You need to toggle on the Process Aliases Automatically setting.
  2. When working with a large corridor, Corridor Point Horizontal and Vertical Point Controls can slow things down considerably. Consider making an "Interim Surface" that you use its Features as your Horizontal and Vertical Point Controls. I give the surface a name that is different from its raw corridor name. This prevents any issues that you might have when you create a surface containing multiple corridors that includes the main corridor.
