I have a 8 DTM's that were given to me to create 1 DTM for a highway interchange project that is about 2 miles in length. The client was unable to merge the dtm's due to file size. I was given the task of merging the 8 DTM's
The DTM's were originally created by a sub of the client using random points which was lidar data. The client went back and added survey breaklines defining the roadway crown and shoulders, barriers, etc...
The DTM's looked good.
Someone then did edits to the model. Only when the edits were completed, someone imported the triangles as breaklines.
When I went to attempt the merge the surfaces, the files became so large that the computer ran out of memory. This probably due to the fact that the triangles are shapes and when imported as breaklines resulted in duplicate information. This is because the adjacent triangle legs and points are duplicated.
So, I am looking for opinions on the best practices for constructed this DTM. My thoughts are using the random points, breaklines and interior shapes. Only problem is that I would have to go back and address the edits that were already performed on the triangles.
