civil data in i-models in the age of BIM

Hi,

i-models are great for data sharing in the BIM age. However i-models will not work perfectly with linear infrastructure. For highways, rivers, tracks we need linear referencing model. For roads still stationing, elevation and offset are most demand information. If we want consider i-models as data  container for construction of roads some new functionality is needed:

- tracking horizontal and vertical alignment;

-measuring chainage and offset from data point in 3D model;

-measuring cross-slopes;

-measuring horizontal and vertical offset between two points;

i-models can deal with Terrain models. It is time the can deal with civil geometry as well.
