Using Dtm's created from other corridors in my main line cross sections.

Has anyone experienced or know the limitations (if any) there are in using the "cross sections from surfaces" tool with other dtm's that are not indigenous to your  main alignment cross sections.    For instance, I made a corridor (alignment and profile) out of a culvert that ran perpendicular to a main line corridor and exported a dtm / tin surface based on this culvert.   When I tried to import that dtm into my main line cross sections (a perpendicular alignment)  - it didn't work.    I tested the error by making a less acute fake corridor (about 30° of parallel) and tried once again to import the dtm into my (fake) cross sections but got limited results.    I thought dtm's were just "multi - tin" files that could be used with any applicable alignment.

Another example would be:   if you had a dtm based on a loop off ramp alignment, could you (should you) be able to bring that loop's dtm into your main line cross sections?   I believe I have done this in the past with success(?).

As a quick fix to bring the geometry into my main line cross sections, I have been dropping the dtm's generated graphics and creating separate tins out of the different components.   This of course takes more time.

Thank you for your consideration, Forum.
