Quick Start Guide for 12D User Starting OpenRoads?
12D user here designing a road in OpenRoads for the first time. Never used any Bentley design products before. Used a lot of MicroStation for drafting though.
After watching through a lot of tutorials on Bentley LEARN, I have determined that the work flow is largely similar to 12D.
For this project, I imagine I need to:
1. Create design line geometry [Question: how to show other constraints such as a bridge model above the road in profile view?}
2. Generate a platform surface - projecting a string at 3% crossfall out to 50m on both sides [Question: should I just make a DTM out of the platform strings?]
3. Generate edges of lane from a template with the vertical levels draped onto the platform.
4. At intersection, create kerb return geometry based on the platform surface and existing surface (where kerb return matches to existing kerbs on the intersecting road) [Or two DTMs at the same time? Or a DTM and a mesh surface?]
5. Apply linear template of kerb to kerb returns at intersections as they are not part of a corridor [Question: are linear templates just normal templates applied without corridor?]
Any pointers?

OpenRoads Designer Update Feature Definition
I have created a catch basin the the DOT left out of their Subsurface_Feature_Definitions.dgnlib I open the dgnlib and it is there. I open my dgn file that I am trying to place the new catch basin in and it doesn't show up. I have replaced the dgnlib everywhere possible, just encase the dgn was grabbing a different one.
I have tried importing the dgnlib into the dgn and no luck.
this is what I see when i open the dgnlib
I don't see the new CB in the openroads standards
any suggestions

Connect new drainage to existing drain
I have a created an existing drainage subsurface utility drawing, and in it I have boxes and pipes showing the existing storm drain drainage. I have also created a subsurface drawing with the proposed or new storm drain drainage in. I need to connect the new drain to the existing. How do I do this? Can I connect nodes from two different files?

Bentley Navigator Mobile - How to export files from ORD?
Hi,
Does anyone know how to export properly files to i-bim format so they actually work in Bentley Navigator - mobile version? I tried to export it to i-bim in ORD U7 but the mobile version doesn't see these files.

[ORD 2020 R1] Profile Annotation Group FYI
Good Morning,
As part of doing my due diligence with 2020 R1, I noticed that in my Profile Annotation Group, anything I had set to annotate at location "In Vertical Components" was changed to "Event Points". Obviously, this is very easily resolved, just an FYI for anyone wondering why their profile annotation was looking weird. Thanks!

Third-Party Software in Ribbons?
Has anyone been able to get their third-party tabs to show up with the OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition - 2020 R1 Update 8 (v10.08.00.88) release that just came out? I'm unable to get Cadig's AutoTable or Transoft's AutoTurn to show up, despite having the configs looking in the correct places. I can load them via the MDLs and use them via their key-ins, but I can't get them to show up in the Drawings workflow the way they did prior to my recent update. I've also uninstalled AutoTURN and reinstalled it, but no luck on the ribbon integration. Thanks in advance.

ORD 2020 R1 - template point - Cannot set the horizontal feature constraint
OpenRoads Desiigner CONNECT Edition - 2020 R1 Update 8 (v10.08.00.88) - I was trying to use the horizontal feature constraint to control my corridor and could not get it to work. When I edited my template to check the feature name I noticed that all my horizontal feature constraints have changed and I cannot set them to what they need to be. After checking the box, I can select one but when I save, close and then reopen the point the horizontal feature constraint is reverted back to the First feature shown in the feature list.
Is any one else having this problem?

Smooth Vertical Adjustment is not affecting original Vertical Alignment
After establishing my Vertical Adjustment Settings and creating and applying a Smooth Adjusted Vertical Alignment, there is no effect to my model.
According to my settings, it should mill 3" and overlay 3" (+) with a controlling point along the existing ground somewhere between my two template range points. However, there is no adjustment whatsoever for a large portion of my alignment.
I'm using SS2 on this project. Is there a bug in that version?

How to Import drawing into the 'Create Template'
Dear people,
I couldn't find import function into the 'Create Template'. It existed 'Microstation V8i Select Series' before. But, not now in 'Openroad Connect Edition'.
Is it terminated? How am I able to import external template or drawing(DWG)?

Plan & Profile SS2 (profile only)
Hi All,
I am trying to create multiple profiles in one sheet, and I have an issue related to station lock.
I have a multiple loop lines and starting chainages are like 1862.55, 1855.66 and so on (not rounded), my profile length is 140m and station interval is 20m.
Example.My alignment Length is 420 lets say Start chainage is 1862.55 and end is 2282.55 according to me 3 profiles needs to be generated
When I lock station and generate profiles its creating 4 profiles like below
1. 1862.55 to 1880
2. 1880 to 2020
3. 2020 to 2160
4. 2160 to 282.55
When I remove station lock 3 profiles generating
1. 1862.55 to 2002.55
2. 2002.55 to 2142.55
3. 2142.55 to 2282.55
I am looking like below
1. 1862.55 to 2000
2. 2000 to 2140 and so on

Backward Compatibility of OpenRoads?
I work with people from another company on this project. They use a more updated version of OpenRoads. They worked on a file and saved it. Now whenever I tried to open it, OpenRoads would only let me open it read-only.
Is there a way to scrub the part of the file that came from the more advanced version of OpenRoads.

Cómo conseguir un entorno realista para mis trazados?
Hola.
1. He descargado el entorno de OpenRoads ConcepStation (edificios y calles) y el Terreno de una zona urbana donde planear una obra:
2. He hecho un trazado de unos desvios de trafico con OpenRoads Designer, utilizando el Terreno y el entorno de ConcepStation. También he dibujado las señales de trafico y las maquinas de obra:
he colocado de fondo la ortofoto y el callejero, pero como son elementos en 2D y mi Terreno es 3D e irregular no queda bien y los he desactivado...
3. He exportado a LumenRT el modelo, queda "animado" pero poco realista:
4. He exportado el modelo a Google Earth mediante un fichero kml. ESta solución se aproxima a lo que busco: tener los elementos de obra dentro en un entorno realista. Pero tengo varios problemas: por ejemplo se pierde información (las imagenes/materiales de las señales de trafico, los estilos de linea, etc.), las cotas no coinciden bien porque el Terreno de ConcepStation no es el mismo que el de Google Earth (por mucho que modifique los ajustes de google) y además los ficheros "pesan" mucho y no es ágil moverse en Google.
sería genial descargar el entorno (edificios, arboles, calzadas, etc. con texturas reales y en 3D) de Google Earth y referenciarlo en OpenRoads. Con ello mantendría todos los elementos del diseño y añadiría realismo. Por supuesto que lo ideal sería hacer un modelo con contextcapture, pero no tengo la posibilidad de hacerlo. Y quizás OpenCities Planner sería mi solución, pero no tengo esa licencia..

have text switch from left or right when placing label from cell.
is there some kind of trick to get the horizontal attachment in place label to work.
when placing a note and typing in text this worked perfectly if my cursor went to the left the text would change to right aligned.
You can see from the screen shot the text is not switching. even if i switch the horizontal attachment from auto to left or or right the text always stays left justified.
there must be some trick to get this to work???

Export to IFC ORD 2020 R1

I was very enthusiastic that with ORD 2020 R1 we will be able to export 3D models along with custom Item Types to the IFC format. Now when I tried to test this - no IFC is created for the 3D model.
Moreover, even the alignment export seems not to work - IFC is created but it is just an empty file.
In the status bare there is an info that Export to IFC is a part of Technology Preview - would it mean that it will not work without some kind of unlocking?
Really in need of this capability as we need to deliver IFC models. perfectly with Item Types.

Software Graphics
Some times when running ORD each window view begins to display a [Software Graphics] in the upper right corner, next to the model name (see below). What does this mean and does it effect performance in any way?
