I recently read and commented on a post regarding PowerGEOPAK crashing.
I have been having consistent crashes with Power InRoads and InRoads with MicroStation for a very long time. These are usually the type of crash were you get the "Report this to Bentley" dialog box. However, I also get a lot of Power InRoads has stopped Working with a "Click here to close" or "Click here to search the web for a solution and close" button. I frequently submit the crash data - sometimes many times on a single session as sometimes I get that dreaded dialog box multiple times, one after the other.
Well, after a particularly bad day, where I probably crashed at least 6 times, if not more, I finally turned off the "Use Two Application Windows" setting. And as soon as I crashed again, I restarted Power InRoads and began working with a desktop window stretched across my two monitors. Since then, I have had zero crashes. Same data set, same basic tasks.
Some crashes come when doing basic operations, often using core tools and not any Civil Platform tools. This has been going on since the early days of V8i. I have logged a number of TR's but never have had anyone follow up. Currently, I am stuck using Ss2 due to client and team deliverables.
In that other thread, there was mention that the Two Application Windows seems to be a contributing factor. Other users have commented that they too seem to have many crashes.
If this is a know issue, please let the users know! And please keep looking into this. As you can see by my signature, I learned to edit DGN files on InterAct's and InterView's and have always tried to have two monitors. Stretching a single application window across two monitors is less than ideal, but a stable platform seems to be the lesser of two evils.
