Replace survey point codes with project specific descriptions

Someone posted an article about how to do this last year in OpenRoads Survey.

 I want to do the exact same thing using Microstation SS2, Geopak, or Data Acquisition.  I have field files using our Company field codes, I want to change the codes at one time to the NCDOT field codes upon import so that when they come in to that workspace, everything will be placed on it's proper level, symbol, linestyle, etc.
