Best software for OpenRoads Design Review & Analysis

$

Hi all,

We are currently designing our first project in OpenRoads and are looking for Bentley PC software that can be used by design reviewers to interrogate and review our designs. I've noticed that there are a few "viewers" and "navigator" products but i'm not sure which one would be best.

Does anyone have any idea which ones would suit us best? Ideally it would be software that wouldn't need an additional license, simple to use as the reviewers are not Bentley users or designers, and would have OpenRoads dynamic cross section and analysis tools.

Thanks,

Mark

I had a previous post about when and where the conferences will be this year. I was given a link to a web page. That link appears to be gone. So, does anyone know where and when the conferences will be held?

I have been working on a project that has required a lot of changes to the networks.  Everytime I try to delete a profile it crashes my Microstation. The error is a system fault:5, it is unable to load the gdnodedlg.mc file.

OpenRoads enhancement: 2-centered curve

We have a tool under Horizontal Geometry to drop a 2-center arc.

The primary curve radius and length are established by the user-specified passthrough point. The second curve is implemented as a back transition. It would be immensely more helpful if the back curve could be specified by a second passthrough point.

Thanks.

EOP PI point insert incorrect

When trying to PI point into vertical profile, the EOP always places in elevation 0.     While center line is locatet correct

When creating EOP I simply offset my horizontal geometry for the Main Road after I have created vertical geometry for it.

What is that I do wrong?

I am using Powercivil SS4 for Denmark

OpenRoads End Area Volumes "Excavation Limits" ?

On a typical RRR project where part of an existing roadway is to be milled and part saw cut and removed for improvements purposes, how can the new OpenRoads End Area Volumes tool be set for excavation limits of unsuitable material.  The material to be excavated is defined on a single level for existing pavement.  Is there a way to define excavation limits similar to the old GEOPAK Earthwork tool?

Please refer to the images below:

  1. Cross Section, no Earthwork delineated

  2. Cross Section, Earthwork with unsuitable material by level from the OpenRoads End Area Volumes tool

  3. Cross Section, Desired result! To get this result we had to break the existing pavement into piece/levels.  Very tedious task.

OpenRoads End-Area Volumes: Symbology Name?

I'm working on annotating cross sections with end areas. I notice that when I click on the ... field to the right end for symbology options, I could select an already-established symbology name. I have no option to modify any of these or create my own here: it's a read-only list. Where can I look to find the library for these symbology names?

Why can't I save a raster as a GEOTIFF with the NSRS 2011 coordinate system using raster manager.  It show that it is used, but when I detach and attach the newly saved file, there is no coordinate system associated with the raster.  I'm using Microstation V8i SS3 version 08.11.09.655.

This error I get when I try to open InRoads.

Microsoft.Net Framework Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you

click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

We just had a visit form Bentley for microstation updates. My config file was changed so that whenever I

click on any of the three desktop micorstation icons, Bentley Map

Enterprise, InRoads survey, or Micorstation V8i, all are opened at the same

time. I am hoping that this is what is causing the error. What I need to

happen is to edit the config file so that I only open microstation or

InRoads or Bentley Map. I realize that both InRoads and Bentley Map run

on top of Microstaton. Most of the time I only need to use Microstation V8i,

without InRoads or Map. I need InRoads to process field survey data, and Map for sending and receiving  .shp file data.

I just need to know how to fix the config file to change how each is opened.

If I click on the desktop icon for InRoads Survey, I will also get this error:

MDL Loader: Could not load appsication Bentley.Inroads.Commands.AT.dll

InRoads will open but not function well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

OpenRoads End-Area Volumes: surface selection

$

In the General settings for End-Area Volumes, there is a list of surfaces that can be selected or unselected. Where do these come from? I've created a new file that has more appropriate terrain models for a specific phase in my project.

I've attached the file to the Default model and the Default-3d model too. But the terrain models that I am expecting to see are not listed. Also, I'd like to get rid of a large number of the ones that are not appropriate for this phase.

Any ideas?

I am annotating cross sections first time, but failed to do somay be I am doing something wrong, I am explaining step by step process of what I am doing..

1. First I am going to Analysis > Sections > Create Cross Section > Create New Cross Sections > Draw Cross Section Pages

2.Cross Section: Working Drawings window opens,

3. when I click ok, It asks "would you like to go back to the original working display" , I click on "no" and One frame appears with few cross sections having Design surface & existing surface and it is a *.dgn file.

4. Now I go to Draw > Annotation Drawings and Pages and select those generated cross sections and annoatate. but nothing happens and sometimes it says "MX Stopped Working". Am I following correct process???

Kindly help to resolve issue.

OpenRoads - Place Circle - Change Starting Point

I have used the place circle command to place an alignment representing a round a bout.  It appears that the starting station of the circle (and corresponding end station) is set at the design file settings for active angle and angle readout/direction mode.  Is there a way to change the starting point after placement?

OpenRoads dynamic cross sections enhancement: stepping along the alignment

$

When creating a dynamic cross section view, you can select the alignment (any alignment, in fact) or the corridor (by selecting the handles, among other ways).

When you select an alignment you also specify the leftward and rightward limits of the cross section along with the interval between sections that you want to see. In order to adjust the interval, I think you have to create a fresh cross section view.

When you select the corridor element, it steps through according to wherever the template drop created the dynamic cross sections. This will skip any areas where there is no template drop, such as bridges (when constructed as an entirely separate set of elements instead of a template drop) or areas where a separate corridor may handle things.

There are reasons to prefer one over the other, varying based on what the user is doing at a given moment.

I'd like to see an option that would allow the user to flipflop between these options. Instead of creating a fresh dynamic section view to switch between them (or to change the frequency in the case of an alignment selection), the user might be able to scan through with these functional options:

  • scan through template drops only
  • scan according to generated cross sections
  • scan according to a user-defined interval
  • scan throughout the alignment: according to generated cross sections where a template drop generates them, and where it doesn't, use user-defined interval.

In fact these could be whittled down to these interface options:

  • frequency within template drops (which would necessarily require a corridor assignment)
  • all generated cross sections
  • skip to every xth generated cross section
  • every y feet
  • frequency outside template drops (applied when a corridor was assigned to the view)
  • every z feet
  • none
  • frequency outside template drops (applied when a corridor was not assigned to the view)

In all cases the preference should be persistent at least within each design file if not a project- or user-wide setting.

Plan View Labeler - Compound Curve

I have an alignment in GEOPAK which includes a compound curve.  The COGO report and the displayed alignment labels are all correct; however, when I try to use the Plan View Labeler the output is incorrect after the start of the compound curve.  The screenshot below illustrates the issue.  Has anyone experienced this?

Hello, My Openroads report differs from my MicroStation displayed curve data. When I hand calc the values, the MicroStation display is correct so the openroads report is wrong. Any clue as to why this is?
