Component Quantity Units

I feel like I must be missing something simple here, but is it possible to change the units in the Component Quantities report? Currently it is reporting items like sidewalk and curb and gutter as volumes instead of linear feet. The unit prices for these are obviously not in CY- am I just going to have to back calculate it to get the appropriate units? I'm using OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition.

Thanks!

How to use geopak drainage to model/design roadside ditch/median grate inlet?

Happy MLK day, everyone! I need some help on the following question.

A grate inlet in a roadside ditch or median is basically in a sag to collect runoff from vicinity area/ditches coming to it. But how do I set it up in Geopak Drainage? I can model it as a regular sag inlet but then I realize it is different from a normal sag inlet at the pavements (for example, it does not have spread section, and most of time it does not have the same right/left slope as PGL). any hint? Thanks.

Smooth contour lines between 2 terrain models - Openroads SS3

Hi All,

I am working on site grading. And I have 2 ditches intersecting each other. The contour lines between those ditches are not smooth the way I have it right now. Is there a way to make it smoother?

Here are the work flow I followed to create the proposed terrain model and contour lines. I am using OpenRoads SS3

1. Created center of ditch alignment for both ditches

2. Create center of ditch profile for both ditches

3. 3D Geometry - Apply linear template (to create corridor)

4. Terrain Model - Create from elements (Selected both ditch elements to create terrain model)

5. Terrain Model - Export to file (exported the terrain model to Geopak TIN file)

6. Then used Geopak "Load DTM feature" tool to draw the contour lines - see below

The contour lines are not smooth. what is the best way to smooth it? Thank you very much for the assistance.

OpenRoads Designer SMD/XML files

Hello, I'm a new user to OpenRoads Designer (Connect Edition), having previously worked in GEOPAK years ago..

My question is, does OpenRoads Designer use a xml or smd file for reading survey PCODES like I used to have in GEOPAK?

If so, where do you go about selecting this? If not, where do I go about setting up this information so my survey imports correctly?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you very much!

Inroads SS2 - Roadway Designer Point Control Import and Export?

$

Is it possible to import or export point controls from the roadway designer in Inroads SS2?

Just a little bit of background information as to what I'm trying to do. Out office primarily works on infrastructure projects and we will typically have multiple engineers working on the same project. I'm on the side of the roadway department that primarily handles the drainage design for our longer roadway and interstate projects so as a result we have a lot of coordination between my side and the other half of the department working on the rest of the design. I work mainly in Georgia so its very common for us to need a special ditch profile along an interstate or rural section of roadway and there are times where we need to modify the ditch width along a small section of roadway, transition between the ditch widths, make minor modifications to the ditch depths, elevations, etc. We are also going to start modifying the ditches for MS4 BMPs such as bioswales so that we can quickly add them to the cross sections without any manual edits.

Since we have multiple people working on these projects at the same time, If we needed a modified ditch we would typically tell the designer what we needed, he would modify the ditch, export the cross sections, we would look at it and realize its not quite right and the process would continue. Throughout this though, either we're waiting on the designer or the designer is waiting on us so we are trying to streamline this process.

With that we do, the easiest way for us to make the changes we need is via point controls so what we are trying to do is make a copy of the roadway designer so we can work while the rest of our roadway department is doing what they need do, and once we get the ditches where we need them and get everything working send the point controls to the designer really quick so we can get them into the cross sections and surface. But, like I said above we typically work on long projects so we need numerous point controls especially once we start adding BMPs into the ditch profiles.

With that being said is there a way to quickly export those point controls via a text file or .csv and import them back into inroads? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

When I come to Visualize mode, and use Characters or Cars etc., I failed to download the contents from LumenRT.

My question are:

Do I need to download the contents from internet? Are there contents in local files?

Why I'm unable to contact server?

Thanks.

OpenRoads - working with complex geometry - workflows

$

Hi,

I'm interested to see if anyone has found an efficient way to work with complex geometry when doing roadway layouts. This is for curb linework, edge of pavement etc - generally when you want to offset the alignment to create all linework. Dropping the rules works fine for some elements but others where you need to extend or trim, the interval system seems to be a nightmare.

How can the program offset an alignment to a complex chain? This would get around the time lost having to do linework with the offset complex entire/partial functions.

Thanks!

ORD Profil Annotation

$

Hi,

I'm struggling with profiles, basically annotation related issues:

1) annotating element in profile drawing: once profile drawing is created with named boundaries, scale is exaggerated 10 times, I can annotate model - I am prompted to choose annotation group and I get grid, table as per annotation group and profile line is annotated as per annotation group associated with Feature Definition (annotation is assigned to feature symbology and symbology to feature definition). Works fine, annotations look great and I am really surprised with the level of flexibility when setting up the frame annotation. The issue here is that I do not really need to annotate ditches in this drawing - I can not remove ditch annotation without removing all other annotations (mainline profile, grid, frame, etc).

So I would like to annotate model with a grid and a frame for the mainline  and then decide which profile lines to annotate, eg ditches. How to accomplish that? how to annotate model with grid, table and without annotating profile lines? When I choose Model Annotation I can only choose Annotation Group that sits under Profile\Drawing\ in this annotation group I have set up grid and framed annotation, nothing related to annotating profile line itself. I don't really understand why this line is annotated.

2) If somehow I overcome that first issue and could annotate profile line independently form frame and grid eg. with Annotate Element Tool. I get issue with scale exaggeration. It works fine when exaggeration is set to 1 (no exaggeration). But when it is eg 10 times exaggerated, the annotations are stretched vertically

.

Can we use Element Annotation tool in exaggerated profile drawings? If yes, then how?

ORD attach drawing to profile view

$

I am almost 99% sure that with ORD we can finally attach drawing model to dynamic profile views. I saw that during one of Bentley Group event I attended when I asked about that and this capability was presented by the instructor -at that time I was so happy with this that I don't really recorded in my memory how it was achieved.

This is needed for example to have geotechnical profiles created with 3rd party software displayed on, or other archival project profiles attached for better context when designing road's vertical alignment or ditches.

1) I tried to use microstation reference tool to attache profile drawing into dynamic profile view - I got it referenced. Works fine providing the profile drawing created with named boundaries has no vertical exaggeration. No matter to what value the active exaggeration is set in the dynamic profile view.. I have this feeling this is not recommended workflow to use microstation.

2) there is an additional icon in once Profile View is oppened: Attache All Profile Views. However it does not work for me. Help file says nothing about that icon. Connect Advisor contextual tab returns nothing and again I have this feeling  that tis is what I am looking for.

Can you advise please? How to get profile drawings attached to profile space?

Corridor Modeler viewing preferences not sticking

While using Corridor Modeler, I am having issues with the Roadway Designer dialogs holding location and size - Create Template, Point Controls, Parametric Constraints.  I am also experiencing difficulty getting my cross section window to hold its settings for current offsets, display backbone. This is a multi-year project that is 90% designed.  It isn't feasible to switch to Open Roads.  I am running Microstation SS4 08.11.09.838 and Geopak SS2 08.11.07.629.

Thank you
